چکیده

Abstract We present the characterization of a readout Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) for CMS Endcap Timing Layer (ETL) High-Luminosity LHC upgrade with charge injection. The ASIC, named ETROC and developed in 65 nm CMOS technology, reads out 16× 16 pixel matrix Low-Gain Avalanche Detector (LGAD). jitter contribution from is required to be below 40 ps achieve 50 overall time resolution per hit. analog circuits consist preamplifier discriminator. handles LGAD signal most probable value around 15 fC. discriminator generates digital pulse, which provides Time-Of-Arrival (TOA, leading edge) Time-Over-Threshold (TOT, pulse width) information. prototype (ETROC0) that implements single channel has been evaluated circuits, measured discriminator's edge, better than larger fC sensor capacitance. walk resulting different heights can corrected using TOT measurement. distribution standard deviation 29 after time-walk correction At room temperature, preamplifier's power consumption 0.74 mW 1.53 low- high-power mode, respectively. 0.84 pixel. With ASIC alone or sensor, performances fulfill ETL's challenging requirements.

Design and Performance of the CMS Pixel Detector Readout Chip

The readout chip for the CMS pixel detector has to deal with an enormous data rate. On-chip zero suppression is inevitable and hit data must be buffered locally during the latency of the first level trigger. Dead-time must be kept at a minimum. It is dominated by contributions coming from the readout. To keep it low an analog readout scheme has been adopted where pixel addresses are analog code...

A Prototype Track-finding Processor for the Level-1 Trigger of the Cms Endcap Muon System

We report on the development and performance of a novel track-finding processor for the Level-1 trigger of the CMS endcap muon system. The processor links track segments identified in the cathode-strip chambers of the endcap muon system into complete threedimensional tracks. It then measures the momentum of the best track candidates from the sagitta measured between three muon chambers in the e...

The CMS Electromagnetic Calorimeter Readout

CMS is a general-purpose detector designed for use in the large hadron collider (LHC) at CERN. The electromagnetic calorimeter will play an important role in electron and photon energy measurements. The benchmark process to evaluate and optimize its performance is H −→ γγ in the intermediate mass range (90 < mH < 150 GeV). For this purpose, each element of the readout chain has to be optimized....

Study of the CMS hadron calorimeter barrel/endcap transition region

We discuss the expected response of CMS calorimetry to single hadrons and jets in the transition region between the barrel and endcap for a number of different geometries of the ”cable path”. These results are an important element in choosing the optimal design for the hadron calorimeter in an effort to optimise the Emiss t resolution of the detector.

CMS Hadronic Endcap Calorimeter Upgrade R&D Studies

Due to an expected increase in radiation damage in LHC, we propose to transform CMS Hadronic EndCap calorimeters to radiation hard quartz plate calorimeters. Quartz is proved to be radiation hard by the radiation damage tests with electron, proton, neutron and gamma beams. However, the light produced in quartz comes from Cerenkov process, which yields drastically fewer photons than scintillatio...
